Sponsored by the Montgomery Amateur Radio Club, our Skywarn Net Controllers and volunteers offer a vital service to the community. We are affiliated with The National Weather Service, the Amateur Radio Emergency Service "ARES" and the American Red Cross.
Our mission is to train and prepare for emergency communications during disasters. We meet every Thursday night at 7:00pm on 146.84 MHz or on back-up frequencies of 147.18, 146.92 or 146.56 simplex in that order. We understand that excellence in disaster communications comes from disciplined procedures that must be trained and practiced. Please join us in this valuable public service.
Skywarn is comprised of people who have undergone training by the National Weather Service in spotting severe weather. We provide information to the National Weather Service about our weather observations and any possible damage. This helps the National Weather Service correlate their radar indications with actual observations from the ground. The National Weather Service offers training classes for prospective weather spotters regularly at no cost. Most Skywarn members are amateur radio operators but that is not a requirement for membership in Skywarn. If you are interested in becoming involved with Skywarn contact us at skywarn@w4ap.org.
The National Weather Service is interested in knowing about Severe Weather reports. Severe Weather is defined as:  nickel size hail or largerwind breaking twigs off treesroad floodingcloud rotationwall cloudsfrequent lightningfunnel cloudstornados Please check in during Active Weather Nets to report your severe weather observations or damage from severe weather. You may also report your observations directly to the National Weather Service 24 hours a day at 1-800-856-0758. |
